The 2006 Yukon Quest started this year in Fairbanks, on the Chena River, February 11th. The trail conditions were so bad due to the lack of snow, a restart was initiated and the finish line moved to Dawson instead of the usual Whitehorse. The Alaska Air National Guard  had to start a rescue operation for some of the teams. Here is a part of the news bulletin.  Videos by Peter Kamper

The Alaska Railroad is really a great adventure any time of the year and is a "must do" for all visitors.

A clip of the 2003, Iditarod restart from Fairbanks. This clip which was provided by KTVF , channel 11, was taken on the frozen Chena River. The crowd was estimated to be around 15,000.
